The Rules Governing the Use of the Gardens

Rules And Regulations To Be Observed Regarding The Use Of The Gardens
(As Confirmed in April 1951 and October 1975): -

1. Only proprietors of houses in the Crescents, their families and visitors residing with them, and also persons specially authorised by the Gardens Committee shall be entitled to the use of a garden key. Holders of keys may take friends into the gardens with them.

2. On each key a number shall be stamped, and if a key is lost, a replacement key will be issued on payment of the appropriate fee.

 3. Members of the Gardens Committee, the Gardener, or other persons in charge of the gardens shall be entitled at all times to require production of the key by which any persons who are in the gardens have obtained admittance.

4. No persons shall pick, cut, or injure any of the flowers, shrubs, or trees and no persons shall climb the trees, or the fencing of the gardens. All persons shall enter and leave the gardens by the gates only, and it shall be the duty of any person opening a gate to close it again. All persons shall keep on the grass and the walks, and avoid walking on the borders.

5. The garden shall not be used for any domestic or commercial purpose, and litter of any description shall not be left. Football and cricket, and other games likely to cause annoyance and danger are forbidden. No stones or missiles of any kind shall be thrown or discharged in the gardens, and the use of catapults, air-guns, and bows and arrows, is forbidden. No fireworks shall be discharged or fires lighted in the gardens, without the permission of the Committee.

6. Dogs are not allowed in the gardens.

7. Heads of families shall be responsible for the behaviour of their children in the gardens, and shall be bound to make good any damage done by them.

8. Within the garden, the propietors and their guests shall behave in an appropriate manner and shall be considerate at all times to other people. They must not do anything or cause anything to be done which is or may become a nuisance or annoyance or cause a disturbance to any other person.

9.The Gardens Committee shall be entitled to exclude from the use of the gardens any person or persons who shall fail to observe these Rules and Regulations.
